FLORIDA REGIONAL  PRACTICE SESSION (PGD)

Date: April 17-18, 2010

Location: Punta Gorda Airport (KPGD), Punta Gorda, FL.

Hosted by: Lee Buechler and Michael Hatten

Aircraft parking is east of the EAA 565 Chapter building, at the far end of the south ramp; check with FBO upon arrival -- hopefully they will direct you .  Briefing location will be announced closer to the clinic date.

Facilities: Uncontrolled field (no tower), large runways.  Airport is served by a commercial airline.  TSA is present; avoid the commercial ramp outlined by solid yellow line.  Do not wander from the FBO ramp area.  Restaurant on field next to FBO needs to be accessed outside the fenced in area.  Car rental on field with prior reservation, hotel nearby, additional hotels in Punta Gorda.

Motel: Days Inn one mile from airport.

Registration fee: None.

Registration: Please click on this registration link and complete a form.  This will enable us to make appropriate plans for the number of people planning to attend.

Click for list of registrants.

Clinic will be held at the EAA Chapter 565 Building.  The main ramp at PGD is on the west side of Runway 15/33.  The EAA building is located at the far south end of this ramp just beyond the self-fueling pump.  We gratefully acknowledge the wonderful support of the following for helping us immeasurably with this formation session:

Jerry Goin, President of EAA Chapter 565 has allowed us to use the Chapter building and adjacent ramp
Gary Steele, FBO Manager, has welcomed us and provided great behind the scene support to our efforts.
Gary Quill, Director of Charlotte County Airport, has also provide exceptional support and made available to us an administration room if needed.
Dinner Saturday night is planned at Laishley Crab House in Punta Gorda.  It boasts a divers, very nice menu, casual -- and looks out over Charlotte Harbor.  We need confirmation of who will attend, how many in each party.  Local pilots will be expected to provide their own transportation.  We will supply transport for out of town attendees.
The Florida Formation Practice is scheduled for  April 17-18, 2010
Rain date : April 18.  If bad weather both days rain date following weekend.
Saturday
8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Mandatory briefing.  Miss the briefing = forget about flying.
9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Practice sessions with a break for lunch.
Sunday
If there are sufficiently qualified pilots for 4-ship practice we may endeavor to put this together.  However, this clinic is aimed primarily at formation introduction, refresher and preparation for B2OSH.   We will not do a 4-ship unless qualified, so don't plan on it.  If more 2-ship practice required this can be arranged.  Participants successfully completing the course will qualify for 60 ABS Aviator points.
Format:
Saturday sessions will focus on formation take-off and landing and station-keeping.  Cross-under for experience on both sides of lead will be accomplished.  Beginners will practice with a safety pilot.  Experienced pilots will re-qualify for B2Osh.  By the end of the day pilots should be comfortable in all phases of the flight requirements necessary for B2Osh.

Sunday: If there is sufficient  interest and we feel there are sufficient pilots qualified we may hold a session introducing break and rejoin, possible 4-ship training.

REQUIREMENTS: Dual rudder pedals, working intercom and  T-34 Formation Flight Manual; review TRAININGOn Your Own and the Waiver.

RECOMMENDED: "Formation Flying - The Art" video (available on loan from Northeast Bonanza Group library for members).
